Green Like God Giveaway, For Earth Day!

We have all heard about it, global warming, green house gases, An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore, and so much more but what does it mean for the Christian believer. What does the Bible say about environmentalism and being an environmentalist, a recycler or even a tree hugger? Does it say anything at all about any of this or will God supply all our needs regardless of what we do in the here and now?

With Earth Day occurring today, what should we as believers of Jesus Christ be doing if anything? The answer might surprise you as much as it did for me!

Scripture says that God is “loving toward all he has made”(Psalm 145:17). As Christians we must love what God loves. Genesis 2:15 tells us why God placed humans in a garden – so we would “work it and take care of it.” Other translations render that phrase, “ cultivate it and keep it” (NASB), “Tend over it and watch over it”(NLT), “Work it and keep it” (ESV), “Take care of it and look after it” (CEV), “Work it and watch over it” (HCSB), “Work the ground and keep it in order”(MSG). Therefore, God’s command for us, is to be good stewards of the things He has created and left us in charge of it.

Humans are created by the Creator to care for His creation, Genesis 3:23, “ So the Lord God forced Adam out of the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.” (NCV)

So with this basis for scripture, we, as believers, must take care of what God has given to us, like our children, our spouses, our homes, and our Earth. We can not think of it as something God will replenish as we use it up. There was a reason in the Old Testament when God told the Israelites to wait a year after every 6 years of crop growing to allow the ground time to heal. We no longer do that and thus are wondering just what is going wrong with our Earth when it no longer produces for us.

The book, Green like God, by Jonathan Merritt, gives the most compelling arguments for Christians to step up and lead people on how to care for what God has given all of us. He will bless us when we do and curse us when we don’t.

I received a complimentary copy of this book to review by Faith Words, a division of Hachette Book Groups. It is wonderful because it answers the question of what do believers need to be doing to take care of our world and I would highly recommend this book.

I have Genesis 2:15 on my desk and read it every day. I think God put us here to take care of this garden. I try.

God has given us so many wonderful things in this life. He tells us to take care of not only our world, but our animals. Our vet has a scripture about this on his bills. I think that is cool!

Sounds like a great book! I have often been "shunned" by "Christians" because I am a "tree-hugger" (wow, lot's of quotes, LOL)

But I feel exactly like you explained. God GAVE us this earth to take care of. It is a gift and so many people don't realize this. I love all of God's creations.....and that includes "trees".

So I am entering this giveaway proudly with my tie dye tee and barefeet! HA!

Stewardship is certainly important; we see the world damaged for selfish ends. It is God's creation.

Whatever the arguments for global warming most of what it proponents suggest is good sense anyway.

i agree like our temples that God has given us we should also take care of the Earth...but not to get caught up in all the craziness that the "world" tries to make it. Sounds like an interesting book.

Hai there kat, thanks for your word and your visited to my blog.. Your word made me very happy and made me more spirit to write more stories and my book :) maybe someday you can review it for me..

About this book, this is a nice books, too bad I'm not in US or Canada...

God is so kind, He is trusted us everything He created. The world, the earth, the plant, animal, but it is very ironic that not many peoples trust HIM, if iam a GOD, I will be very sad...

A green earth now will change to a black earth with many fouls and sins...repent is required...

May God bless us all :)
