Homeless?

It's sad when you think of the thought of losing your home? For most people, it signifies the material equivalent of the American dream. For me, I was always content to just live in a warm place, with electricity, a place to keep my food safe and a bed to lay my head in. It could be an apartment, a room in someones house or even a converted garage. Heck, even a great tent could work in a pinch.

Yet, I am grieved in my spirit when I watch so many that have put their blood, sweat and tears into their homes, lose them in a split second to a mortgage company or bank who got bail out money from the government, so those same said institutions could stay in business.

I guess that is so they could pay off all their existing bills at the good old mortgage company or bank, call themselves now debt free and continue to rip the houses out from under people that are involved in the exact same situation as the banks and mortgage companies found themselves in.

The government hasn't come to the aid of the people, even though, we pay them to work for us. It's the working people, that keep this country going, so don't we deserve the same break if not one step better?

In spite of that, more and more people are finding themselves now homeless and living on the streets. Long gone is a bed to sleep in, it's now converted to a piece of cardboard, and if they are lucky, a newspaper to cover themselves with just to keep warm. Some are fortunate to have a small blanket. There aren't enough homeless shelters, churches or food banks to help support those hurting people.

Even their own family members have turned their back on them, because in today's society we are selfish and want our own space. A place of peace and quiet to have when the world gets crazy. We don't want to share that with anyone else. If we even try to have someone stay, they get on our nerves after a few weeks and out they go with some lame excuse of why they can't stay there anymore.

What is going on with this world anyway?

I struggle when I think that we should be more caring and generous and help those less fortunate than ourselves. Tell me if every family adopted one homeless family and helped out with any extra we had, wouldn't that just about solve the homeless crisis in America?

But many don't want to stoop that far, it's too extreme. It's not their fault those people have found themselves in that situation. So they look the other way. Hoping that homeless man holding the sign doesn't look at them, so they don't have to feel bad.

Then we have the other more worsening situation of homeless people. These could be the same ones talked about above. These are the souls of people without a home. An eternal home. A home without hope, faith and even worse, one without God's eternal love.

These are lost souls that for the most part don't even realize that they are lost. They may not even realize it until it's too late, when they will spend an eternity living in true Hell. They won't be partying it up with their friends and former acquaintances living life on easy street.

My soul grieves for those souls. My heart goes out to every last one of them and I can only hope to reach some of them while there is still time. If you know someone, who hasn't found Jesus Christ as their personal savior, please tell them. Tell them that they can have the best life ever, eternally, and once this one passes away, tell them it won't end for them, like it does for people without Jesus.

You may be that persons last opportunity to receive Jesus into their heart before they leave this earthly home. Don't wait for someone else to do it. Don't look away. Help them to have an eternal home and not be homeless any longer despite what their current situation is like here.

It is very sad...And some try to do any small crime because they learned they could get some shelter at least in the jail and be fed.

May many read your post and be encouraged to reflect their light from the Lord and have the courage to share it with those hurting ones. God bless sister Kat. Love and blessings to you.

Wow, I agree with your friends... this IS a powerful message indeed! The theme is similar to mine so you've proven the age-old myth, "Great minds do think alike!!" ((winks))

I used to live in a car when I was a child and we would line up at the salvation army for a couple of hours just to receive a small dinner tray. Do you know what I looked forward to more than anything? The preaching :) there were always a sermon at the salvation army and because of that... I've always felt like I've had a home <3

This is a beautiful post and I thank you for sharing! I am looking forward to reading more entries from you in the near future :)

P.S. I noticed you are using the "I love you" sign on your default picture, do you know sign language? :o)

This post gripped my heart. Yes, to be eternally homeless is far worse.

May I never take this for granted.

Kat,
This post was very relevant to the world right now. Very eye opening and enlightening. It is so true though that being spiritually homeless is far worse than physically homeless. The great thing about that is though, finding a spiritual home is as easy as believing in provision of Jesus for our salvation. "Whala" a mansion in Heaven for us. Whoo Hoo! God is so good!

Martha,

I went to elementary school next to a school for the deaf, so it was required part of learning for us to learn sign language.

It was nice because there was no division between the two schools because one could hear and the other couldn't. We share a common school ground so it was nice to be able to speak to everyone.

My oldest daughter is taking classes and just completed her first one. She competes on the track team and one of the schools that they race against is a deaf school. She wanted to be able to talk to the students.

Love and Hugs ~ Kat

Thank you for all that you are doing. I have been homeless at several points in my life. Contrary to popular belief, most homeless did not become so out of choice and not because they are lazy, stupid, or immoral. Many homeless people are victims of abuse in the form of neglect and abandonment by their parents or other caregivers. Some of them are simply victims of life’s tragedies, such as hurricanes, fires, or other catastrophes from which they simply don’t have the resources to recover. I invite you to my blog devoted to raising awareness on homelessness: Freethegods.com. There you will find an article I wrote on homelessness and pictures I have taken of homeless people. I always give them a dollar or two for the privilege of photographing them. I am often surprised by their cheerfulness and sense of pride. Often, they will show themselves to have some kind of talent. There is a fine line between genius and insanity.
