The Meeting of the Waters

The Meeting of the Waters, by Fritz Kling from David C. Cook on Vimeo.

A young Christian from Ireland moves to India – not to evangelize but to help girls escape prostitution. A middle-aged missionary in Brazil who long ago left all remnants of home encounters a twentysomething, laptop-carrying family man who rarely stops texting the States as he begins a short term stint in the jungle. A Kenyan pastor struggles to inspire a congregation that watches a foreign megachurch pastor on television every Sunday before church.

The community of Christians around the world – the global church – is stunning in its scope and spiritual impact. But what is happening to the church as technology, the global economy, generational transitions, and other cultural shifts make their mark?

In Meeting of the Waters by Fritz King, he identifies seven trends – such as Migration, Machines, and the growing Mercy generation – impacting today’s global church. Equal parts travelogue, character study, and global documentary, this breakthrough book is for anyone eager to understand and make a difference in a changing world. (excerpt from back cover).

In my review of this book, compliments of B & B Media, I was surprised at just how different missionary work is around the globe now, to what it was some twenty to thirty years ago. With technology changing and impacting this, people are still needed but not as much as you would have thought. Big Screen TV’s are being brought into remote locations for multiple broadcasts for churches, while Christians still continue to learn about cultural ways and languages to bring the message of Jesus to parts of the world where persecution is likely.

This book is a must read for any church that works through and conducts missionary operations as well as anyone thinking of entering into the missions field. Things are changing more and more and thus the need to be sensitive to the needs of the people we are there to help not to change them into our way of thinking.
